Europe Vostro Keyboard Update

Since I blogged about the Europe Vostro keyboard issue, we’ve had several questions about system warranty similar to the comments from Damian Poland and Janet Moore on the blog. I wanted to take some time to answer some of those questions.

You will not void your warranty if you choose to replace the keyboard yourself. If you do damage components in the replacement process, we will replace damaged parts according to the specifics of your warranty.

Customers who choose to have the keyboard replaced by an on-site technician will have a longer wait than those who choose parts only, but we will work through service requests as quickly as we can.

Direct2Dell reader Bryan wondered if his pending Vostro 1510 unit would ship with the updated keyboard. Yes, all orders will be shipped with the updated keyboard.

Direct2Dell reader Matthew wondered if there was a BIOS update he could utilize before receiving the keyboard. Unfortunately, the short answer is no. I’ll work with the BIOS team and will post updated information when I have it.

Dell freely admits they goofed and is moving very quickly to fix this.  That should be enough.

I remote into machines all over the world, and it can be difficult to get used to a new layout, especially when you can't see the actual keyboard.  If all I had to worry about was where the slash was, I'd be content.

Oh, and I really enjoyed Jake Gordon's dell-latin post.

I got the replacement keyboard, thanks for the fast production and shipping. However, it doesn't fix anything - is there a patch to apply ?

Where is (will be) the download link ?

I got the replacement keyboard too, but there was no cd to flash the bios. So on the new keyboard, typing B actually types V, etc. Where is the bios update ??? This is disapointing.

I also received a laptop with the faulty keyboard. Where should I send an email to report the problem, it is really annoying. I would buy the correct keyboard if available, but it makes my laptop close to unusable!!

When will replacement keyboards be sent? I am still waiting. No contact from Dell and no replies to emails. Pathetic customer service and I will have to reject my laptop if a solution isn't forthcoming.

I received my 1510 on the 21st June. It was shipped with the incorrect keyboard.

:-(

I just hope they will resolve the matter quickly.

Dear Kelly

I received my vostro 1510 last week in which I am suffering the keyboard issue, I have been trying to contact dell since last Thursday but I am one week on and im still none the wiser for what is happening with the laptop. It is costing me time and money as the laptop is for a client and it is making my business look bad, I  also find it very unhelpful that we have to contact you via email as its very time consuming and difficult to get an answer

Can you pls get in touch with me

Regards

Dan

I wish I had read this before I committed my company to buying a Dell.  The good news is that this is only the first replacement laptop and the others have not be ordered.

The customer service does not exist, all I keep being told is that I will be contacted soon.  Christmas will be here soon....

Come on Dell, prove that you are a multi-national worth dealing with and not a Del-boy company.
